On November 7th, 2004, Kinsey and her family set out on their journey to historic Williamsburg, Virginia. The following is the journal Kinsey kept then sent to her Grandest Grammy Sheila and Grandest Grandpaw Roger.
Four score and 7 days ago a little pup left the frontier and headed to the city! We got in the van. Weren't going to
Ms. C's.....too far! We finally arrive at a new place! We went for a walk and found this nice man who gave us sippets! Well almost every night we went and visited Mr. Josiah and ate his sippets! Yummm, yummm, yummmm!
On Monday Mystery took me straight to Mary Dickinson's store. I could tell that she was a favorite customer the way they took on over her. She told them that I had no hat of my own. So Mys helped pick out a nice pink one for me. She purchased one for herself with a big purple bow. She also ordered a new style with a burgundy bow! We made arrangements to come back later in the day to pick it up.
We ran into someone that obviously knew mom and the rest of the gang. Said that she had gotten a picture from mom of her and Spense sitting on the court house steps. Said she had framed it and put it up in her house. We were told that Andy wasn't working today or tomorrow. Well who is Andy I wondered???
On Monday night mom and dad ate at The King's Arms. Mom brought us back some prime rib and boy was it good!
On Tuesday we all went into town wearing our colonial best! My how people took on over us! They didn't know people from the frontier could dress with such style! Mystery let me borrow her red hat and she wore her green hat.
Did I tell you that every morning on our stroll Mystery would take us back to the Raleigh Tavern Bake Shop? Well Mom would go in and get a shrewsberry cake and an oatmeal cake. Some days she'd get dad a ginger ale and her a root beer. BTW a shrewsberry cake is a sugar cookie and the oatmeal cake is a cookie. Shandy really loves ginger ale. And guess what? So do I! It's yummy. I also like root beer!
We of course had to stop in Mary's shop to let her see us in all our finery! Here is a picture of her with her hat maker and her new hat. There's also a picture of me in the shop wearing my borrowed red hat.
